Thankful Turkey

It is officially November! That means only a few short weeks until the holiday season is upon us. While we may be ready to Deck the Halls, and Fa La La La La through Christmas light displays, we can't skip over Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving has always been my favorite holiday. I love being able to spend time with family and take the time to reflect on the things and people I am most thankful for. Of course, the delicious food is a major bonus!

This Thankful Turkey is an awesome way to teach toddlers what it means to be thankful for the things and opportunities afforded to them! It encourages them to examine their environment, question where things come from, and consider what or who makes it possible. It is an easy craft that takes barely any supplies, but has a lasting lesson. Scroll down to find out how to create your own Thankful Turkey this November. Check back on Thanksgiving Day to see our finished product!

Items Needed:

Cardstock or construction paper

Scissors

Markers or Pens

Tape

Conversation

Step 1: Use cardstock or construction paper to make your Turkey body and feathers! You'll need feathers for each day leading up to Thanksgiving. Below you will find the outline I created and used. You can get creative and use paper to create the face of the turkey. I choose to let my toddlers draw on it with markers! We then tape it on our pantry door.

Step 2: Each day, talk with your child and discuss what you are all thankful for. Do your best to encourage meaningful answers and answer any questions they may have. Tape the feather to your turkey.

Step 3: Review the answers as a family on Thanksgiving day! Enjoy the tradition for years to come!
