Pressed Flower Art

When spending time outside, one of my sons favorite things to do is pick flowers for me! It is the sweetest thing. He takes his precious time combing the yard for the perfect blooms. On my very first Mother’s Day, I woke up to the sweetest wildflower bouquet next to my breakfast. There was no way my sentimental self was letting those go, and I knew I needed to think of a way to save them forever! Pressing your flowers and displaying them in a frame is an awesome way to showcase your memory, while also doubling as an awesome gallery wall filler. You can use flowers picked by your babies, or even flowers from your wedding or any special event! These pieces also make fantastic gifts for grandmothers, aunts, or any loved one. Now, every time I pass the flowers, I am constantly reminded of the amazing feeling I get, knowing I am loved by the sweetest boy. Nothing can top that!

tems Needed:

  • Flowers

  • Wax/parchment paper

  • Heavy book

  • Frame - For this craft I used a double-sided glass frame. The specific one I used is sold out, but I’ve linked a similar. However, any frame will work!

  • Cardstock or construction paper (optional)

Directions:

  1. Have your little one pick the most beautiful bouquet. Get dirty and truly engage in this activity with them. They will love it!

  2. Place your flowers on the parchment/wax paper, then cover completely with another sheet.

  3. Place the covered flowers in between the pages of your heavy book, and let your flowers dry out for at least a week.

  4. After a week, make sure all moisture from flowers is completely gone.

  5. Arrange your flowers to fit your frame. If using double-sided glass, arrange the flowers face down on one sheet of glass. Gently place the second piece of glass on top, and secure back into frame. If using a standard frame, arrange flowers on glass then secure back to frame. Get creative if you’d like, and add a colorful background using cardstock or construction paper!

  6. Enjoy for years to come!
